Urban Planning and Research professional with experience in academic support, field research, spatial data collection, and urban resilience projects. Currently serving as an Assistant Lecturer at Ardhi University, supporting teaching, research, consultancy, and outreach activities. Previously worked with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) on multiple urban planning and sustainability projects, including flood risk mitigation in the Msimbazi River Valley, urban food production, and large-scale land plot evaluation. Shaaban Abduba
Shaaban Abduba is a Geospatial and Land Governance Expert with extensive hands-on experience applying GIS, remote sensing, and spatial data systems to support land administration, physical planning, pastoral resource management, and sustainable development in data-scarce environments. He currently serves as a GIS Expert at Africa Conservation Centre, where he supports conservation, rangeland governance, and community-based natural resource management through advanced spatial analysis and participatory mapping.
In addition, Shaaban works with the Isiolo County Government (Lands and Physical Planning Department), where he leads county-level GIS and physical planning initiatives. His work includes the preparation and implementation of urban and rural physical development plans, land-use zoning, land tenure analysis, and support to land adjudication and dispute resolution processes. He plays a key role in designing and maintaining spatial data infrastructures, including cadastral, rangeland, and land information systems, and in integrating customary and statutory land governance systems.
Shaaban has also provided GIS technical support to international development and humanitarian organizations, including Mercy Corps and World Vision, contributing to land governance, food security, water infrastructure, and climate resilience programs across northern Kenya and the Horn of Africa. His experience spans spatial assessments for water and irrigation projects, development of GIS dashboards and mapping products, capacity building for government officers and communities, and integration of indigenous knowledge into geospatial planning frameworks.

I had a rich and fruitful experience with the Nelga North Africa network. It involved expertise on land governance in Tunisia. I participated in workshops, and we shared experiences with various country members.
Elnazir Ramadan
Dr. Elnazir Ramadan has over 20 years of academic experience, teaching and conducting research in land use planning, spatial development, and sustainable urbanization. With expertise in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing, Dr. Ramadan has applied these technologies extensively in urban and regional planning. His recent research focuses on Cites resilience and adaptation to climate change integrating spatial information within national, regional, and global policy frameworks, with a particular emphasis on mapping Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in relation to social, economic, and environmental challenges. Before joining the United Arab Emirates University, Ramadan held teaching positions at Juba University in Sudan, Qatar University, and Sultan Qaboos University, contributing significantly to the advancement of urban planning education and research. In addition to his teaching roles, Dr. Ramadan has a distinguished research portfolio, with numerous publications featured in prominent international journals, as listed on his Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science profiles. His research is widely recognized for its focus on urban planning, environmental resilience, and sustainability, with a particular emphasis on the GCC region. He has played an instrumental role in postgraduate education. He has supervised and examined numerous Master’s and PhD theses that proves his leadership in postgraduate education

Meet Mr. Paulo Samweli Kitosi – a skilled Urban Planner, Urban Designer, and GIS expert. Currently, he is employed at the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Human Settlement Development in Tanzania\\\’s capital city of Dodoma. Mr. Kitosi holds two postgraduate degrees, a Master of Architecture (Urban Design) from Ardhi University in 2016, and a Master of Science in Geographical Information Systems (MSc. GIS) from the University of Dar es Salaam, which he obtained in 2023. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning from Ardhi University, which he earned in 2014.
